I put up this recipe around Christmas time. It’s saved me from getting sick many times. Hopefully more people will be helped by it.

Invoking God

Friday, February 13th, 2004

I’ve noticed lately how there’s absolutely no limit to what people invoke God over.

The little sect in Sweden feels they are being persecuted by the outside world because of their faith, and don’t seem to realize that someone from inside their community had to have been responsible for the murder of a pastor’s wife. So, when the police are investigating that murder, is that REALLY persecution? Not from where I’m standing - on the outside.
UPDATE: They’ve sacked the pastor whose wife was murdered, siting that a pentecostal pastor can’t commit adultery (he’s admitted to it). Hopefully they’ll start reining in some of the other weird practices as well.

I’ve also seen God invoked to take care of evil people, as pronounced by someone who has a history of false accusations. Oh brother….

Interesting responses

Sunday, February 8th, 2004

I’ve noticed that I’ve gotten quite a few responses to the posts I’ve written about stuff I’ve seen on TV. I’ve gotten responses from people who have written articles I’ve linked to, and people who seem to be involved with productions I’ve talked about. I realize these are responsible people searching for people mentioning them, or just checking their logs.

Either way, I appreciate it, and I also wonder if there are few people writing blogs about what they see on Christian TV? Just a question, something to wonder about.

New program on TBN

Thursday, January 29th, 2004

I saw a PTL program on TBN Europe yesterday that I really enjoyed. It’s a precursor to a weekly show hosted by the Crabb family. The lead singer in the group was especially anointed. I didn’t see the whole show, but from what I saw, I would rather have watched the Crabb family than some of their guests. Either way, I’m looking forward to seeing more of them. I just hope I manage to figure out what their show is called!

Uh, should add that it’s a Southern Gospel group.

Unfortunately no word on their website about the program yet.

The spear that pierced the body of Jesus

Monday, January 5th, 2004

I saw a program on Discovery Channel yesterday, where they did forensic tests on the spear that was said to have pierced Jesus after he died on the cross.

It’s been seen as a powerful relic for almost 2000 years, and was last owned by Adolph Hitler until found by the Americans and given to a museum.

Over the years it’s been said to have been owned by powerful world leaders, and has been augmented over the years with inscriptions, silver and gold sheaths.

The idea was that because it had pierced the body of Jesus, and his blood had covered it, it had been imbued by power from that day on, and would give it’s owner power.

Frankly, it’s not a Christian idea at all!

That idea has no place in Christendom, because Jesus and the apostles taught that the Holy Spirit would inhabit us, and that’s where our power comes from. The only place where they used objects was when they took cloth worn by Peter and laid on the sick. And even so, those objects were to be used as points of contact for faith, not as magical objects.

The way the story of the spear was told, it’s clear that the idea was rooted in magic.

What I’m saying here is probably very hard for catholics to hear, because relics are very important to them. But I call it like I see it, and historically, magic has gotten mixed up with Christianity at many points in history. Magic belongs within occultism, the way I see it, and occultism has nothing to do with the Christian God.

God never meant for his people to put their faith in objects of any kind. All of that is heresy. God meant for his people to seek him in prayer and in faith, and he would send his Holy Spirit to minister to them and through them.

Oh, and the results of the forensic tests? They don’t believe that the spear itself is from the time of Jesus. But there’s a big nail in the center of the spear that looks a lot like the nails used to nail people to a cross at that time. It’s too well preserved to have been from his time, but there’s something pressed into the metal of the nail, that they suspect could have been a fragment from a nail used to crucify Jesus.

Blog entries in English

Friday, December 5th, 2003

When I started this blog, the core audience was Scandinavians who were Christians. However, since I talk with so many Christians in the US, I thought maybe I should do a blog in English too. I decided to compromise, and have one category in English here. So the entries in English can be found by entering this link:

I’ll be alternating Norwegian and English posts according to what topic I’m writing about.

DHS - the TV series

Friday, December 5th, 2003

I turned on TBN, and saw a video that looked a lot like the frenetic pace of the series 24. Very fast, very dramatic, but still with a Christian message.

Afterwards there was a discussion in studio. The actors were (I looked them up afterwards):
Alison Heruth-Waterbury (Bio) and Timothy P. Cavanaugh. Joseph M. Medawar and one other producer was also in the studio.

What was fascinating to me, since I deal with Hollywood a lot, is how they talked about Hollywood and Christianity. Apparently, Jack Hayford had once said that it takes time for people to get out of the kind of life they’ve gotten used to in Hollywood. I’ve seen this with people I know. One woman told me that she’d been a Christian for a long time, but she didn’t really live the Christian life. She wasn’t serious about it. By now she is, but it took time - she was asleep/lukewarm for many years.

What Alison said was very similar to this. At a time of great pain - she’d just been left again after giving birth to her last child, God told her he’d never let her go - and this time she accepted and got serious with God.

I was also fascinated to see that Timothy P. Cavanaugh had gotten saved a few months ago, and the other guy in the studio had been saved on the air on TBN seven weeks ago! If this is the kind of fruit this series brings, I’m very anxious to see the series!

DHS stands for Department of Homeland Security, and the series is about fighting against terror. Don’t know much more, but you can see a poster from the series (which is projected to be finished in February) here:

I was also fascinated to see that Alison is chairperson of Colors of Our World foundation - whatever that is. Could it have to do with diversity? Would be interested to know more…
