Trying to decide on software
I’ll use something other than MT for the new site, and I’m trying to decide what to use. Probably WP or Drupal.
UPDATE: I’ll get another hosting package for the new domain. I’ll have adequate space, for either software.
What software is best, in your opinion?
I’ll probably put the blog in the root. So I don’t know if I’ll have any use for Drupal’s added abilities?

Drupal is a kitchensync: a CMS which also happens to do blogs.

I love drupal and only use it for it’s blog capabilities. It’s not as easy as the other packages and definitly takes more work to get it going.

I like your design, Cindy. But your site seems clunky in the way it’s set up - like only two posts on the front page.
I guess I’ll need to have a look at designed sites using different software. B2 is probably pretty similar to Wordpress, since it’s sort of an early version. So I’d probably feel right at home in it. Yet Drupal is tempting for the capabilities. I need more time…

I would highly suggest WP. It’s really small, and very fast. Of course, it all depends on what you plan to do with the new site. WP does allow you to create pages for the site using WP. If you set up the permalinks properly, you can have addresses to pages that look like: http://www.example.com/about, http://www.example.com/spam/comment.
I’ve used a bunch of different software for blogging, so far I really dig WP. I probably wouldn’t have said that back in the pre 1.2 days, but they have made leaps and bounds with the software since then.

K, almost convinced I’m going with WP. Found some nice designs. I’m not usually one much for designs, but I’ll at least give it some thought this time.
I wish it had three columns, but can live with two.
BTW, I’m outta here for tonight. I’m probably late with dinner already, since I’m leaving for a little to do tonight.

I’m on WP now, but there’s a very interesting system out there I’m studying, called textpattern. It can be used for more than just blogging, and probably has more features and a slightly steeper learning curve than some would care for, but it’s very flexible.

I’ve read about a few that are using textpattern that are having problems with their site due to upgrading before the latest version came out of beta. If you do switch to TP, you may want to get the last stable version rahter than the latest beta.
The biggest reason I switched to WP from EE and others is due to the size of WP. It’s tiny in comparison. I don’t have a need for most of the features of the other blogging software, with one exception. The ability to run multiple sites from the same installation. That would be nice. However, since WP is so small, I really don’t mind installing it multiple times. It does make upgrades a bit of a bitch though…
