Two new spammy comments

I’ve had two new spammy comments in my moderation queue.

From two different sources.

And what I warned could happen, has.

I asked that my fix be kept to private e-mails. It wasn’t, and other people also figured out the same stopgap blocking measure.

And now at least one 161.58.59.8 spammer has figured it out. Someone connected to Thomas Reece. This one won’t be possible to block unless you’re willing to block a sizeable number of legitimiate users.

There are other possible fixes. Not sure how possible they are to implement?

Let’s discuss somewhere privately, eh? How about a little mailing list?

    That’s annoying.

This confuses me though. If the guy has adapted that quick then he seems prolific and competant enough to alter his attacks…BUT…none of the comments are showing up (certainly on my site) and the spam urls are only showing up in my private referral logs. So my initial assumption that the guy has some intelligence falls over there…because all he’s managing to do is suck up bandwidth for no reason.

Hopefully it isn’t catastrophic. There were a few comments a long time ago from this same pattern. They were few and far between. It’s possible there are many different spammers contracted by the same sites. I guess we’ll see in time.
