Choosing a cell phone

Tuesday, April 20th, 2004

I just finished writing something about keeping in touch with your family while abroud. Technical solutions to that. I got the idea for writing that after I talked to a father whose son was headed for the US. I tipped him of one of the things I’m writing about, and he was very grateful. It dawned on me that some of these tips may not be universally known…

Dette er en sorgens dag…

Sunday, April 18th, 2004

Fikk akkurat en mail om at TBN kommer til å slutte å sende analogt over satelitt her i Europa.

Huff!

Da må jeg ut med x antall tusen (under 4) for å få en digital receiver.

Her er mailen:

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ANALOGUE SATELLITE VIEWERS

On 15 May 2004, TBN Europe is changing from analogue to digital
transmission on Eutelsat HOT BIRD 6. Shortly after this date, it will
no-longer be possible to watch TBN Europe using an analogue satellite
receiver. However, you will be able to watch us on HOT BIRD 6 using a DVB
digital receiver, together with two new TBN channels, The Church Channel
and JC-TV.

The new digital tuning parameters for TBN Europe on HOT BIRD 6 (13° East)
will be: Frequency : 11.585 GHz Polarity : Vertical Symbol Rate : 27.5
MSy/s FEC : 3/4

Non-satellite viewers and viewers watching us on Eutelsat EUROBIRD 1
satellite using a digital receiver (including Sky Digital) will not be
affected by this change.

For more information, visit our website at
http://www.tbneurope.org/tuning.htm or call us on +44 (0) 1707 655444.

Frokostgrøt

Monday, April 12th, 2004

Har endelig lagt opp oppskriften på frokostgrøt på nettet. Har laget denne oppskriften selv, og brukt den i flere år, og synes det er den beste grøten jeg noensinne har spist.

HÃ¥per flere vil ha glede av den!

I put up this recipe around Christmas time. It’s saved me from getting sick many times. Hopefully more people will be helped by it.

Rugged cell phones

Monday, April 12th, 2004

I wrote a new topic in my computer section. This time it’s a shameless plug for rugged cell phones. In the old days, a cell phone could take a beating and still keep on working, but we’ve had a few years now with phones that broke with a minimum of impact. Shock and water damage will NOT be covered by warranty, so choose your phone with care.

I have to smile at something I heard. Teenage girls who come back to the store with dead cell phones. The clerk asks if they’ve got water damage, and the girls say no. One sniff reveals that the phone smells of shampoo…. Guess they didn’t want to miss any calls!

Anyway, here’s the page:

Travelt

Sunday, April 4th, 2004

Sees senere!
